Ivan, you were my first sporting idol from the first time I went to watch Speedway at The County Ground in Exeter. Those fabulous Monday evenings and Bank Holiday afternoons of the 70's watching you wearing Falcons colours knowing you were the best in the world at that time was incredible. You always made time to come to the Grandstand afterwards to speak to the Supporters, and especially us young kids. I was only 3 or 4 years old, and now soon to be 50, but I will never forget the time you spent with us. Thank You!! Rest in Peace now Champ xxxxxx

You could have been forgiven for taking your 9 world championships and slipping into quiet retirement, however you chose to promote this great sport to so many, myself included. I was incredibly privileged to know you for a short time and was immensely impressed with your professionalism, determination, and kindness. Rest In Peace Ivan.

Words have been my life but where do you find the right words? I can still remember that first Sunday lunch at Upper Chorlton Road and so many memories flood back. We will never feel you have gone because of those memories. We had so many good times together and you, Raye and the family were, are and will remain the best friends we could ever have. Sure you'll be showing all the younger ones up there how to skid. Farewell till we meet again I. Pam and Peter Oakes x

Words simply cannot even start to describe, the man, his achievements, his supreme professionalism, the way he set up the foundation for today's speedway, truly the saddest day for speedway. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family. RIP Ivan

RIP My hero. I was 6 years of age when you gave me my first pair of goggles at Somerton Park ( Newport Wasps ) . You always had time for the kids seeking an autograph as always a true gentleman. Hope you have a blast on the speedway track in heaven with all the other great riders that have been waiting for their own inspiration to arrive. Gone but will never be forgotten. Thanks for all the thrilling entertainment. Heart felt sympathy to your family ❤️
