I crossed the A34 (Kingsway) to catch the 96 bus to Belle Vue ... a white Mercedes car pulling a trailer... on board were 2 gleaming Jawa Speedway bikes. Their chauffeur was my idol... the thrill of seeing Ivan on his way to Hyde Road was immense. Sitting on the third bend I'd watch in awe as Ivan rode towards me at speed ... the back wheel came out, the left foot went down ... that was a moment of speedway beauty for me ... that sight is still burnt in my mind. The style... his designed leathers ... and the chequered helmet of course. Later I would go in the pits and get the latest poto I had purchased signed by him. So so many great memories... saying thank you feels so inadequate.... So to Ivan and Raye ... Thank you for making the trip half way around the world. Not only me but Speedway fans every where are so so grateful. RIP IVAN
