I am very saddened to learn of Ivan's passing. He was my boyhood hero and inspired me to strive for the best in sport, be it as a competitor or official. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and was always struck by how professional, friendly and courteous he was. After a brief exchange of e-mails a few years ago, about the possibility of starting cycle speedway in New Zealand, I was surprised and delighted to receive a Christmas card from him. My sincerest condolences go to Ivan's family and friends. RIP Ivan, you were the greatest speedway rider of all time, a true gentleman and will always be remembered with the greatest affection.
