I saw most of my speedway between 1964 and 1981 and saw Ivan on many occasions. I doubt there was any major meeting in England which included Ivan that I did not attend. He was so smooth and made speedway look easy. Never the most exciting rider but certainly the finest of his generation. Had he not fallen in the run-off with Szjackiel I am sure he would have been a 7-time World Champion.
