I remember riding my bicycle wanting to be Ivan Mauger, going around a corner so low the pedal hit the road, I still have the scars on my knees to this day..loved it. What a thrill it was to watch Ivan race, the excitement of knowing I was going to see him at Western Springs in Auckland NZ, the build up of the whole week, just waiting for Saturday night...and finally, there he was, in the flesh, my hero right in front of me. How proud I was to follow him in 1985 as he was retiring from racing with a national tour through NZ. Simon Wigg, Neil Evitts, Bobby Swartz, John Cook were among the riders on the tour, just fantastic. And to take NZ to a World Team Cup victory, so very proud indeed. My memories are treasured moments, to meet him was an absolute thrill. He loved his wife, loved his kids, had tremendous success, some big disappointments too....a very full life, a life that was truly lived. He will always be an inspiration to me as a man, husband and father. My very best wishes to Raye , Julie, Debbie and Kym
