As a Cradley Heathens fan since the 60's I have many memories of Ivan and his tremendous ability on a speedway bike. There was always a feeling of excitement and anticipation at Dudley Wood when Ivan was coming to ride. There was always the hope that one of our team would beat him. Our dreams were rarely fulfilled! Especially in the Wembley world final run off with Bernt Persson and yes I was there for that one too. For anyone, in any sport, who aspires to be a champion they should look no further than Ivan Mauger to understand what it takes. Desire, focus, hard work, professionalism, single minded dedication and a need to keep on improving even though you have already set impossibly high standards. Simply the best the sport has ever seen, no question, no debate needed. Our best wishes and thoughts to Ivan's family at this time.
