Having been a Belle Vue fan since 1964 I have seen many a great rider race the old Hyde Road track but no one caught my eye as much as Ivan did....he seemed so professional...something that we had not seen in speedway before....and he gave us young lads that wanted to be speedway riders something to aim for like many of us did at the time....I was lucky enough to get into the sport and managed to race against my hero on a couple of occasions....of course he beat me but it is in my memory for ever....
