Watching Speedway for 50 years, I have seen some wonderful riders, however for sheer magnificence and professionalism Ivan Mauger was number one across the World. His legend will live forever, I am truly grateful for seeing him win many races, and watching him be Speedway World Champion six times in the most competitive era.

I saw the great Ivan many times as a boy riding against my Leicester Lions. Head and shoulders the best speedway rider that I had the pleasure to watch. My Dad and I would go to other meetings not involving the Lions just to watch him ride. R I P.

R.I.P. my friend from the first time I met you in the 70s I cried I was only 8 years old, you were my hero then, I then saw you again 30 years later at Sheffield in the pits and I nearly cried that time as well, but I held back the tears because I had a tyre in my hand. The meeting had finished and I went to the bar. I bowed at your feet and everybody looked at me weird, I just didn't care, you said to me would you like a drink and I said yes to have a drink off the world's best speedway rider of all time we stayed in touch as well it was an honour and privilege to know you Ivan you were an amazing person and I respect you so much. Keep sliding that back wheel up in heaven my friend. THE WORLDS BEST.......R.I.P. MY FRIEND

I’ve been a Speedway fan for 45+years since first going to watch Crewe in 1972...even before then I’d heard of Ivan. I’d seen him on TV ...watching him made me want to watch Speedway live. Althrough those early years for me, Ivan was The Master...incomparible. He was to Speedway what Fangio was to F1, Agustini to Motorbikes, Ali was to Boxing ...he was up there with the All Time Greats of every Sport. Thank you Ivan: my deepest, sincerest thanks for giving me Speedway and my condolences to your loving family

The word 'legend' is used far too often though never enough with the great Ivan Mauger. Rest well.

Very sad to hear of Ivan's passing. Many vivid memories of him at Old Meadowbank in Edinburgh. A superb rider who raised the profile of his sport, and a strong personality who created interest and helped to fill stadia wherever he rode. One of the very few household names the sport has produced. He will be fondly remembered by speedway fans everywhere.

Shame for Ivan Mauger. What a great speedway star. Saw him at Bloomer Road for his autobiography what a nice genuine man. Won't be forgotten.
