I had the pleasure of meeting Ivan on a few occasions when he was back at Newcastle. I watched him ride at Wembley in the world finals he was amazing. He will always be the greatest World champion the sport has ever seen. And he will always be remembered at Brough Park. RIP Ivan and thank you

Having been a Belle Vue fan since 1964 I have seen many a great rider race the old Hyde Road track but no one caught my eye as much as Ivan did....he seemed so professional...something that we had not seen in speedway before....and he gave us young lads that wanted to be speedway riders something to aim for like many of us did at the time....I was lucky enough to get into the sport and managed to race against my hero on a couple of occasions....of course he beat me but it is in my memory for ever.... R.I.P. Ivan

Sad, Sad news. The loss of a great sportsman as well as a speedway rider. During my days as a referee I have to say that, even though he openly declared that he 'hated' referees, he was always respectful and courteous; no aggression or offensive language -- a gentleman. Ever the Gentleman. Sincere condolences to Ivan's wife and family.

Ivan, you were my hero when I was lucky enough to get to see you race every Saturday at Belle Vue Manchester. Thank you for those memories and you will never be forgotten.

I watched Ivan ride many times at Belle Vue first as a Newcastle Diamond then when he joined The Aces. He was a great rider and his professionalism for the sport was second to none. He was an expert in track craft and a gifted rider. My condolances to all his family.

I started going to Speedway in1964 at the age of 6 years old and had the privilege of watching many of the sports Golden Greats including the fabulous Ivan Mauger. As I got older my love for this wonderful sport deepened and I became an avid autograph collector. I can still remember how I felt when I got Ivan Mauger's autograph and he was so kind and gracious with his fans.
RIP Ivan Mauger sleep well my friend you deserve it.

Iwas fortunate to grow up in a golden era for speedway, the person thatput the final polish on that era was Ivan, a totally professional, determined rider. He also cared about giving the paying fans value for money through his "pride in performance", never turned up to a meeting "nearly ready to race", or having just done enough to be competitive, a true role model to those who follow him in the sport and will be sadly missed. My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his family in this time of great sadness for them.

In 1972 I met Ivan Mauger, I have recounted the story of that day thousands of times and every time I told the story I would say โthatโs if you know who Ivan Mauger isโ not once did anyone say no, they may never have been to a speedway meeting but people in all walks of life knew Ivan. He transcended the sport but also represented it in superb style. I am proud to have met him.

I Have the up most respect for the professionalism and dedication he showed through out his career to becoming the best .A nice guy who never forgot his roots and always had time for the younger guys starting out a true professional who did so much for the sport .RIP Ivan

I am very saddened to learn of Ivan's passing. He was my boyhood hero and inspired me to strive for the best in sport, be it as a competitor or official. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and was always struck by how professional, friendly and courteous he was. After a brief exchange of e-mails a few years ago, about the possibility of starting cycle speedway in New Zealand, I was surprised and delighted to receive a Christmas card from him.
My sincerest condolences go to Ivan's family and friends. RIP Ivan, you were the greatest speedway rider of all time, a true gentleman and will always be remembered with the greatest affection.
